August 8 Meeting Notes

Important Note: 

  • Please order breakfast by Monday each week! 
  • This will help Ruth and others get the order for Tuesday's meeting.
Alan Walker 
  • Hell Bent Brewery Social - 2nd Tuesday of each month at 5pm
  • Volunteers Needed
      • 8am to 6 pm Thursday 8/10 and Friday 8/11
      • The Chelan Douglas Community Action Council will be paining a house that will be used as living quarters for Americorp volunteers.  We could use help with the painting.  Below are two links for people who are interested in helping with the paint project this Thursday and Friday.  All supplies will be provided, painting from 8am to 6pm both days. People can sign up for the days/times they wish by the hour.  If for someone reason the link does not work for people, my cell number and email address are below, simply let me know via any option which works best.

David Barshes - Challenge Scholars
  • There are 8 - 10 students
  • 10 Volunteer mentors needed
    • Duties
      • 1 - 2 year commitment
      • Meet with student twice per semester

Craig Reese - Town Toyota Center Concessions

  • Mark Van Horne is working with Rob Tidd to coordinate the effort between our two clubs
  • Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary is partnering with Wenatchee Confluence Rotary to work concession stands at Town Toyota Center for the 2023 - 2024 Wenatchee Wild season.
  • Sunrise Rotary committed to Confluence Rotary to provide at least 2 people per game. 
  • Sunrise Rotary anticipates generating at least $6800 in revenue With Wenatchee Wild moving up to a higher league, TTC and Wild expect most games to sell out. 
  • TTC plans to open all 4 concession stands for each game.
  • Volunteer Requirements
    • Must be able to stand for up to 5 hours. 
    • Must have food handler permit. No exceptions. 
      • Must have THIS Food handlers permit https://www.foodworkercard.wa.gov/ 
      • Cost is $10 and takes about 40 minutes. 
      • This is the only on-line class that Washington State will accept. 
      • Other on-line classes that say they're good in Washington are actually not acceptable.
    • Must have MAST 12 permit. No exceptions.

      • Cost is $8.95 and takes about 3 hours. 
      • When you start the class, they have you answer 10 questions such as "what is your favorite sport" and "what was the model of the first car you owned".
        • Take a screen shot of your answers; you'll need to use them when you go from one section of the course to the next. They do it to help ensure security of the class.
      • IMPORTANT NOTE: When you complete both certifications, send Mark Van Horne a screenshot or photo of your permit. He needs to provide them to Confluence Rotary.
    • Town Toyota Center Training  
    • Must take training from TTC to learn how to operate equipment in concession stands. popcorn, pretzel, hot dog, beer tap, cash register.
      • Town Toyota Center is offering Concession Stand Training for Rotary members who are going to work the Wenatchee Wild hockey games.  This training is mandatory for everyone who plans to work the games.
      •  The training will be at Town Toyota Center on Saturday August 19th. There will be one session starting at 10:00am and another starting at 2:00pm. Topics covered will include:

         a. Running the cash registers

        b. Making popcorn, preparing pretzels and nachos, and filling the cheese machine

        c. Re-stocking supplies

        d. Changing beer taps

         Please attend one of these training sessions, even if you haven't completed the food and MAST trainings yet.  Also, sign up for dates to work using the link below.

         If you are volunteering to work the concession stands at Wenatchee Wild games, please sign up to work a few games using the spreadsheet below.

         1)  Click on the link below.  A Google Sheets spreadsheet will open in a web browser.

        2)  Enter your name in the games you want to work.

        3)  Data appears to be saved automatically.  When you're done, just close the web browser window.

Brags and Confessions


Mansour Ravassipour
  • Mansour has a second house in Portland
  • He and his wife have doctors in Portland
  • They also spend winters in Arizona
  • Mansour will be in attendance when in town
Glenn King
  • Attended Aunt and Uncles 50th Anniversary
  • Dad and all 3 siblings have been married for 50 or more years
Alan Walker
  • His son and daughter in law visited from Ellensburg
  • His daughter turned 32
Craig Reese
  • He and his family took a week of vacation last week
  • His son turned 33
Stacy Gold
  • She was in Florida and made her way to the Bahamas
  • Her daughter turned 15
  • Stacy got her daughter and friends to play Murder Mystery

Town Toyota Center Concessions
  • We made a commitment to the Confluence Club to provide 2 people for each game (35 games)
  • We are short quite a few people. Craig's goal is 15 people
  • We have quite a few people but about half are not available for TTC training on the 19th of August
  • Craig will work on identifying options
Road Apple Roulette
  • The club had all but 3 people last year and all but 2 people this year
  • The event had great support and great results
Zoom
  • Everyone had an open discussion about whether to continue to offer Zoom attendance
  • There were individuals on both sides of the idea
  • In the end it was decided to continue to offer Zoom for now
  • There is a need to send a link to the club each week to make sure it is the current meeting id (Emma Crowe and Glenn King will get the correct link)
