Sunrise Rotary Committees

Membership:  Work to maintain or increase membership in Sunrise Rotary.  Organize and participate in community activities which expose Sunrise Rotary to the Wenatchee Valley community.  Maintain prospective member lists.  Meet with prospective members.  Assign mentors to new members to assist in their integration into the club.

Programs:  We really don’t need anyone on this committee Dave Freimuth is posting the programs on ClubRunner, and a Board member is in charge of the programs for a given month.  However, we’d welcome ideas anyone has for a great program.

Fellowship:  Organize activities outside general meetings to encourage fellowship in Sunrise Rotary.

Fundraising:  Identify activities that generate revenue for Sunrise Rotary.  Solicit volunteers from the club to perform fundraising activities.  Work with the club Treasurer to estimate potential revenue amounts.  Coordinate with outside organizations as required.

Finance:  This committee is the advisory for our finances and helps keep track or our financial position.  Our treasurer is always on this committee.

Project Selection:  Work to come up with, and promote, service projects our club can participate in. Will the projects be worth our time and money, promote Rotary service and public image, help individuals and/or agencies, etc.

Marketing/Public Image:  Work to promote Rotary and our club though our activities, and PR campaigns.  Coordinates with social media and projects committees.

Social Media:  Maintain Sunrise Rotary’s social media sites by performing regular updates.  Sites include a website, Facebook and a blog.

The Rotary Foundation (TRF):  Work to promote The Rotary Foundation, which is the non-profit part of Rotary that provides the funding for most of our club, district and international projects.  Elicit contributions and write grants to access TRF money for projects.

Youth Exchange:  Work with our inbound and outbound international exchange students, parents, host families, and promote the program in our club and community.

Challenge Scholars:  Work with local schools to identify Challenge Scholar candidates.  Select program participants from a candidate pool.  Mentor Challenge Scholar participants.  Prepare them for Sunrise Rotary meetings upon successful completion of the program.  Work with club Treasurer for distribution of payments to program participants.

PROGRAM - Nick Moore - Information Sercurity Officer

Nick Moore is the Information Security Officer at Cashmere Valley Bank, where he has had the privilege of leading the Bank's Cybersecurity program over the past 4 years. He has an IT degree from Western Washington University and holds several cybersecurity certifications. His expertise lies in safeguarding computer networks, computer crimes, and fraud prevention.

Nick presented many specific ideas on how to recognize security threats and what we can do to protect ourselves.

Is it a scam? (Do not allow any of these events trick you into giving away your information.)
  • If someone calls you asking for a two-factor code
  • If someone asks you for your password, Pin or Social Security Number
  • If you receive suspicious email links and attachments
  • If someone is using high-pressure, urgent language
  • If you get a pop-up on your computer asking for remote control
  • If someone asks you to buy gift cards, or send money using a cash app like Zelle (or other apps), or a wire transfer
How can i protect my accounts?
  • Use multi-factor authentication whenever possible
    • This is having 2 passwords or security codes to make it harder to steal or access your information
  • To verify messages and alerts, call your bank directly or log into Online Banking.
    • Any company you work with will not communicate this way.
    • They do not want you to get used to these kinds of communication, opening you up to viruses and other common ways that the bad guys try to get to you.
  • Use UNIQUE COMPLEX passwords
    • There is no shortcut. Keeping passwords protected and complex is the best way to limit risk.
  • Do not click on adds, keep your computer and software updated and use antivirus protection
    • Know the number of someone that can help you with your computer has been compromised.
Important Things to Know
  • Legitimate companies will NEVER call you or text you to request sensitive information or ask for remote PC access
  • If you receive a call, text or email NEVER reply with personal information, ESPECIALLY your password
If you think you've been a victim of a scam, call or go to online banking:
  • Cashmere valley Bank at (509) 665-1070
  • www.CashmereValleyBank.com/fraud
