July 26 Meeting Notes

Announcements

Goathead Warriors - Successful event this year. Doug Paley is responsible for the program, and he said that Sunrise Rotary is the only organization to ever participate.



Saturday at 7:00 am - clean out bike storage unit - help needed.

Wenatchee Museum - They are building an area for kids called "Coyote Corner". They received a grant to set up the area but they need a couple of people to help set up some of the furniture.  Contact Kathleen if you can help.

Pangborn Festival of Flight - Saturday August 6th. Sunrise Rotary will be there from 9-1. There will be shade and water available. Volunteers needed.

Farmers Market - August 20th - Rotary will have a booth and will need volunteers.

Sunrise Rotary Social - Saturday 8/27 at Wayne Massing's Home - All are welcome. Bring an appetizer and your own drinks. Children are also welcome. More details to come.

Brags and Confessions

Wayne Massing - Wayne took a 2-day trip with others and had a great time.

Robin DeRock - Robin, Woody and Blake Baldwin are in Walla Walla at the Port Commission Meeting. Blake's parents are there as well. They all had a great 6 course, wine matched meal that was outstanding.

Rebecca - Rebecca unfortunately hit her head on the tailgate of a GMC Yukon. She ended up with a concussion and has three staples to heal to wound. 

Little Essentials Food Basket - We are still accepting shelf stable and canned food items. Robin will pick up the donations at each meeting.

Auction - Two of John McDermott's Rotary Jackets were sold. A 2xl went to Robin for $50. An XL went to Glenn King for $20.


Program - 35th Annual Sunrise Rotary Apple Century Bike Ride - 9/10/2022


The Bike Ride is a fundraiser for Challenge Scholarship Program and other club programs. A large number of volunteers will be needed.

Alan Walker is the project lead for this year's Bike Ride. The ride includes routes covering 25, 50, and 100 miles. 
  • 80% of the participants in the past have completed the entire 100-mile course.
  • Pre-registration will be $60-$80
  • Registration the day of the race will be $70-$90.
  • The ride begins at Walla Walla state park at 6AM on 9/10/2022.

Alan gave a detailed account of what it takes to put on the Bike Ride.
  • Permits for the route and the shutting down of roads are required by the WSDOT.
  • Flyers need to be distributed to every possible location to hit the 400-participant goal for this year's race.
  • There are 8 sponsors so far. More sponsors are needed. Please approach organizations that you think might be interested.
  • There will be SAG wagons and Pit Stops for the riders at key locations along the route.
    • Pit Stop locations include Lake Wenatchee, Leavenworth, and others.
    • SAG wagons will have bike parts, medical supplies, and other misc items to help riders in need.
  • Vehicles (2 people per vehicle) will be needed to drive the route to assist riders as needed.
  • The ride ends in Walla Walla Park. There will be beer and dinner served. A number of volunteers will be needed.
  • The club meeting on 8/23 will be dedicated to putting together goody bags.
  • The route setup and preparation dates include Wed 9/7 thru Fri 9/9.
    • PJ has been setting up the route since the first ride. This will be his last year so we will need someone to help him and take good notes to transfer his knowledge to the next Bike Ride. 
    • Supplies for the ride are stored at OHME gardens. Contact Alan for details.
    • Help is needed for PJ on Wed and Thurs. Robin volunteered.
      • Signs, cones, arrows on the roads along the route, etc.
  • 9/11 will be the day that all of the signs and other route markers will need to be picked up. Help is needed.
Signup sheets are available, and the club will continue to recruit needed volunteers at each meeting.


Aug 6th - Pangborn Festival of Flight - Rotary will be there from 9am to 1pm. Please signup if you can help that day.

Aug 20th - Farmer's Market - Rotary volunteers needed.

Aug 27th - Pool party at Wayne Massing's home. More details to come.

September 7 - 11 - Bike Ride Setup (9/7 - 9/9), Race Day (9/10), Race Clean Up (9/11)

September 21 - World Peace Day at Rotary Park at 5:00
