July 12 Meeting Notes

Announcements


President Robin's first meeting at Pybus.

Thanks to everyone who worked on the 4th of July parking, and the 5th of July park clean up.

Committee sign-up sheets were hung on the walls for the coming years projects.

Robin introduced "Karen the Clipboard". It was passed around for sign-up for $5 tickets to the July 20th Apple Sox game.

We are accepting donations of canned and shelf stable food for Central Pantry. They will distribute donations to area food banks with the most need.

Alan gave an update on the bike race. 
- He has Wenatchee Valley Brewing on board to sponsor beer for the bike race. 
- The next meeting for the Bike Race will be 7/26. PJ (a previous club member) will be helping again with the race again this year.

No Rotary at Farmer's Market on Saturday July 16th.

A test of online enrollment for volunteer opportunities will be starting soon. More info to come.
Invoices will be sent this week.
Work will be done with honoring Rotary veterans who have passed. More to come.
 
Brags and Confessions

Jackie announced that she is now the Bergdorf Winery Manager.
Mansour shared that he will turning 80.
Craig has a new granddaughter in Snohomish.
Chris's brothers visited from San Antonio and Jordan.
Ruth shared that she had a rough trip to Canada with her 96-year-old mother-in-law. She went to a Chris Stapleton concert and a wedding. 
Eric is going to be a grandpa and he will be selling his home. He plans to move to his cabin in Chelan.
Jim is celebrating 34 years in Rotary. He and Carol had a family reunion with 30 people at Fish Lake.

Main Program - Rotary Challenge Scholarship Presentation

David and Craig were co-chairmen for the program.

The following people presented the experience Colin, his family, his mentors, and his counselor have had over the past couple of years on Colin's path to success.

The program is comprised of 8 students chosen by the counselors and teachers at Westside High School in Wenatchee.
                                                                                      
Sophomores at risk of not finishing high school are selected for a 2-year cohort.

Colin joined the 2020 cohort.

Mentors included Katie, Earl, Ruth, Robin, David, Wayne, and Jim & Carol.

4 of the 8 students in the cohort graduated on time at the end of the program.

Favuiola is a WSU graduate with her Master's, and Phd.

Dr. Barbosa (Faviola) works for the Washington Apple Education Foundation and provides scholarships to qualified candidates.

Colin was in the top 2 graduates in his cohort and received a $10,000 scholarship. He is considering being a lawyer or a small business owner.

A new cohort will be formed this fall and mentors are needed.
