The $5 Apple Sox game - Wednesday night 7/20. Tickets handed out at the meeting or available at the game.
Committee sheets were placed on the walls and Robin "encouraged" everyone to find a place on one of the sheets or she might find a spot for everyone. :)
The next Bike Ride meeting is 7/26 at 5pm at the Hilton Garden Inn in the bar area.
The Goathead Warrior event is scheduled for Saturday at 7am. More volunteers needed or the event will have to be cancelled. Meet at Mission View Elementary (Terminal Street entrance).
Aug/Sept/Oct - Greeters and Invocation volunteers needed. See "Karen the Clipboard" for the openings.
Aug 27th - Pool party at Wayne Massing's home. More details to come.
Project ideas for the new year are needed. Please give your ideas to Robin.
Canned and shelf stable food items are still being collected for food bank.
Brags and Confessions
Jim announced that the Rotary Peace Pole project is on track. The city provided a $50,000 grant to help with the project.
Robin shared that Ron Griffith (a veteran and Rotary member) passed away. $125 is needed to honor his passing. Robin, Alan, and Wayne contributed $25 each to the fund.
Rebecca shared that she just got back from a conference in Washington D.C. The first in-person conference since Covid.
Alan had a family get together that included one of the former exchange students from Sweden (and her son).
Amber announced that she has left the Humane Society and is now the Program Manager for Hope Source in Wenatchee.
Ruth shared that her daughter has been accepted to the Peace Corps. She will be spending 27 months in Cameroon in Africa.
Paul Harris Fellow Award
Robin presented Kevin Love with his Paul Harris Fellow Award (3) for the past year. It included 2 rubies to represent his past contributions.
Main Program - Rotary Challenge Scholarship Presentation
The following people presented the experience Michelle (this year's Challenge Scholar), her mother (Anna), her mentors (Jim and Carol), and her counselors (Dan and Paula) have had over the past couple of years on Michelle's path to success.

Faviola Barbosa, Phd- 1st Ever Challenge Scholar Recipient
Favuiola is a WSU graduate with her Master's, and Phd.
Dr. Faviola Barbosa works for the Washington Apple Education Foundation and provides scholarships to qualified candidates.
The Challenge Scholar Program is comprised of 8 students chosen by the counselors and teachers at from High School's in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee.
Sophomores at risk of not finishing high school are selected for a 2-year cohort.
The program mentors from Sunrise Rotary include Katie, Earl, Ruth, Robin, David, Wayne, and Jim & Carol.
Each student is assigned a mentor or mentors.
During the 2-year cohort, each student can earn a stipend each quarter.
They are required to meet twice with their mentors.
They must complete 4 hours of community service.
They must pass all of their classes.
Michelle earned $825 over her junior and senior years.
4 of the 8 students in the cohort graduated on time at the end of the program.

Michelle joined the 2020 cohort. At the time she had 2 credits of the 24 credits she needed to graduate from Eastmont.
In Michelle's junior year she earned 16 credits.
In her senior year she earned 18 credits.
She received 4 credits for passing the Washington State Seal of Literacy Test.
Michelle surprised everyone involved by not only graduating, but graduating early with more credits than she needed.
Michelle's principal said that Michelle's comeback was the best he had ever seen.
Her nickname at school is "The Comeback Kid".
Michelle won an award for her accomplishments.
The award is given to only one student each year.
Michelle was the recipient out of a class of more than 400 Eastmont students.
Michelle is the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from Sunrise Rotary.
She is considering working in the medical field.
She has been working at Davita helping people receiving Dialysis.
She is thinking about a nursing career plus working as a mid-wife.
A new cohort will be formed this fall and mentors are needed.
