Meeting Notes Dec. 3, 2019

Announcements

The club's Christmas party is Dec. 18, 6 pm at Ridgeline Graphics. Bring a White Elephant gift (optional) valued at $20 or less. Bring your own beverage; water will be provided by the club. We will be having a Dessert Dash with the funds raised going to the Salisbury Fund. The caterer is still being determined ("2 Chefs" or "Ring-A-Bell"). Please sign up at the Dec. 10th meeting if you are attending, or call Carol at 630-2120, so we get the meal count to the caterers.

Kathleen McNalty asked for volunteers at the "Christmas Family Fun Day" on this Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center
https://www.wenatcheevalleymuseum.org/event/christmas-family-fun-day-5/
Our club volunteers have 3 shifts available. 1) Saturday, 9-10 a.m. - set up cocoa and cookies. 2) 10 am - Noon - serve cocoa and cookies. 3) Noon - 2 pm - serve cocoa and cookies. If interested, contact Kathleen McNalty (kmcnaulty1@outlook.com) or at 503-866-5599 cell. We will have our club banner there, and Rotary aprons for the volunteers.

The Life Flight Network presentation at last week's meeting generated a lot of interest in club members joining this not-for-profit air medical service. If we get 10 or more club members to join, the rates drop from $65 to $59 per YEAR! Some air ambulance flight cost over $30,000, so this is cheap insurance (about $5/month) if the need should arise. Wayne Massing volunteered to be the focal person in our club to collect applications and send them and the money to the Life Flight Network. We have already had 7 members sign up! Contact Wayne for a Membership Enrollment Form for Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary Club. (wkmassing@nwi.net)

Our club elections are held in December, so if you would like to apply for a club position, please contact Club President Taro Masuda, or Carol Adamson. Kevin Love and John McDarment are two board members whose terms are ending at the end of June, 2020.

Club President Taro announced that there would not be club meetings on Tuesday, Dec. 24th or Tuesday, Dec. 31st.

Brags and Confessions

Taro was happy that his Utes were #5 in the nation!

Jim Huffman and Kevin Love both won money from the Wenatchee Lions Club's Apple Cup game scores. Jim and Kevin both pledged 10% of their winnings to the club's treasury. Jim pledged the remainder to the Central Washington University's Alumni Club.

Earl Crowe enjoyed the Apple Cup game and the outcome! Go Huskies!

Jill Courtney celebrated her 47th wedding anniversary with Dick.

Tana Nichols celebrated with family members in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for several days. Her tan proves she enjoyed the sun! While there, two of her daughters celebrated birthdays and one got engaged!

Alan Walker enjoyed West Port, Washington, and its beaches. His Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council has an opening after an employee took another job. Contact Alan for details on the position.

Kathleen McNaulty thanked Sherrie of "Sher Fun Events" for her helping set up the meeting room and breakfast for each club meering.

Adele, our Swiss Youth Exchange Student, presented the club with her "While-In-Wenatchee Wish List", and encouraged club members to help her fulfill some of her dreams! Her list included: Seeing the Pacific Ocean, Visiting Vancouver, British Columbia, Taking a hot air balloon ride!

Also, it would be nice if some of our members got Christmas presents for Adele.  The club will purchase something as well.

Program

Ryan Price gave his first classification talk at today's meeting. He grew up in the Okanagan/Omak area where his family had lived for over a century. His hobbies are football, golf, skiing and soccer. To fulfill some of his hobbies, he bought a house near Mission Ridge Ski Area, and joined the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club. His 4 year degree in business at Washington State University (Go Cougs!) helped him get his present job at Edward Jones Investments in Wenatchee. He met his wife Olivia in Tempe, Arizona, where she was also working for Edward Jones. She now works from home for Edward Jones, while Ryan works in Wenatchee. He said he joined Rotary to give back to the community! His favorite cookie is the Snicker Doodle; his favorite movie is "Home Alone"; his favorite book is "How to Win Friends and Influence People".
