January 24, 2023 Meeting Notes
The meeting was called to order at 7 am by President Robin DeRock.
Today is National Beer Can Appreciation Day
Rotary Guests: Pete Van Well, Wenatchee Rotary Club; Rob Tidd, Wenatchee Confluence Club
Guests:
- Major Morris Hahn - Pangborn Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol
- Tom Green - Pangborn Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol
- Her school is having a fundraiser to pay for a family to move to the U.S. from Afghanistan
- The movie will be shown on Feb. 10th - There will be a flyer next week
- The Confluence Club raises as much as $2500 per night when they provide the entire staff for a single concession stand
- Robin worked and raised $304 for our club
- Jackie worked a different night and raised $100 for our club
- There will be a Roast and Toast for Rufus Woods
- The event will cost $100 per attendee
- Sat. Feb 4th and Sunday Feb. 5th - Home Show - First public event
- Volunteers needed for the show! Easy 2-hour shifts.
- Lots of Road Apple Roulette tickets sold at the Home Show last year!
- 10 spots still open - $45 each person
- Reserved parking included. Food and drinks for purchase.
- Members bringing prospective Rotarians, get priority seating
- A decision was made to test the ordering of breakfast for $8 per person for the next 2 months
- The order will need to be placed online

- Chris and his wife attended the Peking Acrobats show and really enjoyed it
- Chris and his wife also celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary
- Traveled to the Tri-Cities to attend a play
- They then went to dinner at Anthony's
- They then played Bingo a Tri-Cities based Rotary Club
- Back from a trip to Kauai and an enjoyable vacation
- Bill will be 79 on Friday Feb 27th
- He has now practiced law for 49 years
- Jim and Carol both recently celebrated birthdays
- Thier ages are apparently classified
- Kelly and Alan also just returned from a trip to Kauai
- They were able to avoid Jim and Carol the whole time!
- She has a grandson that just turned 1 year old
- Robin recently received a cortisone shot that had a severe reaction
- Her blood pressure jumped to extremely high levels (220+/110+) that could have caused a stroke. Thankfully she avoided severe results
- Tom Green was also in attendance (a former County Commissioner)
- Note: The Civil Air Patrol was the group that provided the flag ceremony for the Rotary Conference at the Wenatchee convention center.
- The responsibilities were to:
- Hunt for submarines
- Transport targets for war games - This assignment cost the lives of 27 people from friendly fire.
- Education on ground systems
- Flying
- 5 powered flights
- These include being scramble exercise targets for F15 fighters.
- They also flights as DEA spotters looking for drug farms in some states.
- 5 Glider flights
- High Altitude Balloons
Milt did not win the raffle this week. $254 dollars and growing!
