Club Assembly

Today we discussed 5 of our original 11 focus areas developed at the visioning process before the year started.  Tables answered questions about our goals, how we were doing and what we need to do next,  Areas discussed included club service, community service, new generations service, fundraisers, and public image.

Carol gave the past quarter's accomplishments:

• New members – Jim Richardson, Kevin Love, and Bobby Black
• Rotarians of the Month – Maggie Nelson, Jim Adamson, and Joan Wright
• P. E. Wayne completed The Rotary Leadership Institute and attended P.E.T.S. (President Elect Training)
• Mentorship Training for Challenge Scholars began and completed.  (11 members attending)
• Bike Ride committee in full swing.  Attended Bike Expo in Seattle to promote bike ride.
• Started the RYLA selection process.
• Denise Barnett applies for Rotary Peace Scholarship
• 100% of members give $100 to Rotary Foundation again.
• Attended event to honor Earl Tilly who received Service Above Self award.  Highest award given through Rotary.
• Continue to be generous to “Feeding the Kids” through the Green Cups.
• Contributed to the “Packing Friendship Program”.  $450
• Two Paul Harris Fellows given to member Jordan Carrell and Community member Justin Peterson.  Also given to Justin was $200 toward his project – Honor Flight

Bike Ride Progress

The Century Bike Ride committee keeps meeting regularly to prepare for the June 6 ride.  Topics discussed at the last meeting included finding a 2016 chair and sub-committee workers, t-shirts, sponsors, bike expos, and other ways to promote the ride.  Anyone is welcome to attend the committee meetings.

Jordan Carrell Named Paul Harris Fellow

Jordan Carrell was named a Paul Harris Fellow at today's Sunrise Rotary meeting.  Congratulations Jordan!

Jordan joined Sunrise Rotary in 2012 and most recently served as our Treasurer.  He accepted a job in Seattle working on small business loans for U.S. Bank,
and now lives in the Phinney Ridge area of Seattle.  Today was his last meeting with our Rotary Club due to his relocation.  We wish him well.

Josh Meziere Classification Talk

Josh shared a power point presentation about his life.  Josh was born in Tacoma.  He went to Central Washington University where he graduated with an English major and also met his wife.   Josh headed to California after graduation where he worked in finance with Centaurus Financial.  In 2008 he moved back to Wenatchee and joined Solomon Financial, focusing on securities and insurance.  In August 2014 he married his beautiful bride at Hampton Hideaway, near Mission Ridge.  Rain and thunderstorms did not prevent the lovestruck couple from enjoying a lovely ceremony in a beautiful locale.  Hampton Hideaway is a fairly new venue and the Meziere event was the first wedding held there.  Josh founded his own company, Meziere Medicare Advisors, where he helps seniors with Medicare health insurance choices.  He especially problem-solving questions about the Medicare drug program.   Josh enjoys backpacking and is a baseball fan.

Program - Apple Blossom Royalty

The Apple Blossom Royalty talked about their experiences with the selection process, their future plans, and Apple Blossom events.  The royalty sang happy birthday to Jim Huffmans's niece, and gave out picture cards to all the kids.   Apple Blossom begins April 25 with the Kids Parade, and ends May 3.  Events include the Classy Chassis (May 1), the Grand Parade (May 2), the carnival, and the food/crafts fair and entertainment in the park.  The royalty chaperons his year are Lori Reed and Kate Bratrude.









The Royal Court (below) includes Princess Anissa Sangster (Don's granddaughter), Princess Francesca Nevil (Bryan Noyd's niece), and Queen Gaby Waterman.

New Member Induction

We were pleased to induct Bobby Black as a our newest member.  Bobby is a commercial loan officer at North Cascades Bank.  With him are his wife Brooke, and daughters Natalie, Lauren, and Paige.  Also pictured is his sponsor, Ted Fukuzawa.  We look forward to serving with Bobby and his family.

District Conference, June 18-21

Here's a great idea for a social event.  Register for the 2015 District Conference in Kelowna, BC, and join other members of our club, and those from around the our district for a weekend of fun, fellowship, and Rotary inspiration.  Kelowna is a beautiful place.  Bring the whole family and make it a family vacation.  Many of us will be staying in the University if British Columbia's dormitory, right next to the center of conference activity.  There's a picnic Thursday night to kick things off, lots of optional Friday activities to explore the Kelowna area, and the famous home hospitality that night. Saturday and Sunday morning will be filled with Rotary sessions and information.

If you have never been to a district conference, this would be a good time to see what fun they are. Our club will reimburse your registration fee, and maybe some of the other expenses.  Let's get a good representation from our club to Kelowna this summer.

March is Literacy Month

MARCH - LITERACY MONTH 
Some of the successful literacy projects in our district include the Guatemala Literacy Project that has been going for years.  Our club has participated financially in this project. We also donate children's books to the library in the name of our guest speakers.  Many clubs in our district give out dictionaries, and/or provide reading tutors to grade school pupils.  There are many literacy needs in our own community and world-wide that Rotary can help with to increase the quality of education, and the quality of life.
