District Governor Visit

On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, our Rotary District 5060 District Governor Marjolein Lloyd will visit and address the club during our meeting. The Wenatchee Sunrise Board of Directors and Executives will meet with her the previous night. Please plan to attend the October 17th meeting to give her a warm welcome.

Craig announced that board members will meet with the District Governor at El Agave on the October 16th.

Youth Exchange Program Update - Laerke

Laerke is on the Wenatchee High School swim team.
Her practice schedule overlaps with our club meetings so she will not be able to attend meetings consistently.

Reminder: Anyone in the club can make arrangements to take Laerke on an adventure.

  • Wayne decided to auction off the option to donate the money to the club.
  • Rebecca Lyons won the auction with a bid of $120.
  • She can choose from any photo in the Etsy store.

JC Baldwin, Criag Reese and Sarah Deenik

JC Baldwin Bio

Commissioner JC Baldwin took the oath of office on April 20, 2005, and has been re-elected to three six-year terms. Commissioner Baldwin served as Vice Chair of the Public Works Board (appointed by Governor Gregoire in 2012). Ms. Baldwin has served as President of the Washington Public Ports Association Executive Committe and is currently on the Legislative Committee. On July 3rd, 2023, Ms. Baldwin was appointed by Governor Inslee to the Washington State Transportation Commission. She is also currently serving as the chair for the Community Aviation Revitalization Board. Ms. Baldwin is also past President of both the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce. She is past President and an active member of Cashmere Rotary. Ms. Baldwin has been in the technology sector for most of her professional career. Ms. Baldwin is a small business owner of GTC Technical Support in Wenatchee, which has provided customized technical support to clients internationally for the past 24 years.

Sarah Deenik Bio

Sarah is the Communications Coordinator & Finance Specialist for the Port. Sarah creates the presentations like the one delivered to our club.

Sarah is married with 2 children. Her husband is a teacher.

Program Highlights

The presentation covers a number of major projects pending or in progress in Chelan and Douglas counties.
  • Microsoft Data Centers - There are number of data centers planned for our area. If all are completed as planned, it will add 900 new family wage  jobs to the community.
    • This will add $3 billion dollars to the current Douglas County Assessed value of $8,4 billion.
    • This will add $3 billion dollars to the current Chelan County Assessed value of $19.765 billion.
    • The result of the new taxes collected from Microsoft will reduce the taxes collected from the citizens of the Wenatchee Valley.
  • Airport
    • A second flight each day became available on September 7th.
      • Departures: 6am and 1:45pm
      • Arrivals: 1:05pm and 11:56pm
    • A new apron will accommodate three 737 planes at the same time.
      • $11.7 million
      • Local contractor: Hurst Construction
    • A new lighting system that will allow planes to land more often during inclement weather.
    • March of 2024 the Army National Guard will be moving their operations to the Wenatchee Airport.
      • 100 reservists will be active once a month
      • They will be leasing the Executive Flight Building for 10 years.
      • This will allow faster response times to fires in NCW
  • Regional Post Unified Tax Levy - November 7th Ballot
    • The Unified Property Tax Levy intends to balance the Levy rate for Chelan and Douglas Counties at .164172 per $1000 of assessed value.
