Program - The Wenatchee Wild -  Bliss Littler

Bliss Littler

Bliss is a seasoned and wildly successful part of the sport of hockey. His record includes being the winningest coach in US junior hockey history with 836 career victories behind the bench with a winning percentage of .635.  Click Here for a detailed story about Bliss on the BCHL Network website.

The new WHL team in Wenatchee is the #1 league to find NHL players. It is a level above the previous Wenatchee franchise.

There are two other leagues:
  • NAHL - Requires too much trave due to the distances between teams
  • BCHL - not the best standards
The Western Hockey League took their time deciding to locate in Wenatchee. After a discussion in the earlier part of the year, the decision was made in August leaving Bliss and his staff only a couple of months to prepare for the season. David White and the WHL came to an agreement and the Wild took the next step forward for Wenatchee Hockey.

There are 2 paths the players can take to play in the NHL:
  • Path 1 - Traditional Path
    • Play junior hockey
    • Play college hockey
    • Hope to go Pro
  • Path 2 - THE WHL PATH
    • Play in the WHL
    • Earn one year of college tuition per year played
      • OR
    • Get picked up by the NHL and use the tuition earned to go to college in the future
The NHL teams own many of the WHL teams.

The #11 pick in the NHL draft will play in Wenatchee. There are 2 more Wenatchee players in NHL camps right now. These drafted players can play in the WHL. This generally means that players can play longer in Wenatchee while waiting for their place in the NHL.

This results in higher caliber players that are more serious about their hockey careers.

Changes for the Town Toyota Center include upgraded lighting and an increased number of games from 56 to 64 games.

Wenatchee playing in the WHL also puts us in the center of the action with teams in Spokane, Portland and Seattle to name a few.

WHL team's draft players at 14 years old. They must be good enough at 17 or they are dropped. They retain the right to the player until they are 21.

The NHL drafted players must be 18 years old.
