With the generosity of our members, and help from several matching
donations, our club was able to raise $18,800 to help eradicate polio in a matter of minutes. At 60 cents for each dose of the polio virus vaccine, the amount represents 31,333 lives that will be saved from the ravages of this paralyzing and/or deadly disease. Here's how it worked:
$150 collected by Sgt. at Arms and blue cup collection
$150 donated by Don Sangster
$300
$250 donated by Annie LaCroix after matching to $250
$550
$1000 donated from club funds
$1550
$1550 donated by Bryan Noyd after matching total club donation
$3100
$3100 donated by Wenatchee Club (President Jim Russell) after matching the new total
$6200
$12,600 donated by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation after 2:1 match
$18,800 TOTAL
That means for every one dollar a member donated, $18.80 was generated (31 lives saved).
